IKEA Project
Beauharnois
While just about everyone can say they've assembled an IKEA piece of furniture, few can say they've helped build its new distribution centre—a 1.2-million-square-foot LEED Silver-certified facility located in Beauharnois, in the Greater Montreal area.
This centre makes it possible to store more products and bring the retailer closer to its customers. Thanks to the integration of advanced automation technologies, it also supports IKEA Canada’s online sales by providing storage capacity for no fewer than 244,000 pallets.
For our Allies, this project stands out in many ways, and the general contractor could rely on Cordero’s rigour and expertise throughout the work. The exceptionally high safety standards governing site access, the scale of the project and the level of precision required were unlike anything seen before. In addition, because the building’s structure was designed to rely on its interior structural system, construction had to be completed by installing the roofing system before the interior.
Cordero’s Allies were involved throughout the project, taking on a wide range of tasks, including building the formwork for a massive concrete slab that now supports hundreds of aisles, fabricating countless concrete pour stops and carrying out snow removal throughout the project.
